Sous Le Pont Mirabeau is a poem written by Guillaume Apollinaire and one of my favourite poems. It's a dark poem about losing his lover. The poem talks about the Pont (Bridge) Mirabeau that reminds him of his former lover, the passing of time and the loss of love.
Through this abstract pop-up book, I wanted to show the darkness of what he was going through. The poem was published in "Alcohol", which goes to show sad and desperate he really was. The bridge in the book is broken, the heart is broken and it's all very violent. It's all very hard edges and dark outlines. There is no softness there. As for typography, I opted for a minimalist approach, with a play of sizes to create hierarchy. Even the font itself is not very easy to read, which gives the reader a chance to experience what Apollinaire must have felt.
